A perfect off-grid cottage
A while ago we spent the most magical weekend in an off-grid cottage on the Wilderness Reserve in Suffolk. When we saw Hex Cottage online, we knew that we would have to book it and also film our stay for YouTube. It looks absolutely beautiful from the outside and used to be a gamekeeper’s cottage. Hex Cottage doesn’t have electricity and when we arrived in the evening it was dark but the team had lit the entire cottage with candles (yes, you can use real candles there!) and it felt like straight out of a movie.
We fell in love with the red brick and the blue woodwork - such a beautiful combination. There was plenty of fire wood, 2 bikes and more candles that we could ever use.
The kitchen was probably our favourite part in the cottage. The materials and colours used are so extremely calming and soothing. The Esse wood burner controls the heating and hot water. We stayed there in March and it was always so cosy and warm!
A hearty breakfast for 2! We were so pleased when we saw that there was Burleigh Pottery. This is the pattern ‘Blue Asiatic Pheasants’, the very same we have at home.
The lovely and cosy sitting room! We even had a wine tasting at night there with a sommelier coming to the cottage - so unreal!
We used every chance to sit by the fire - it doesn’t get more cosy than this!
The bedroom was so nice - the cottage has gothic windows which makes it extra charming!
We always enjoyed a relaxing bath when it was dark surrounded by candles. It’s simply not something that you would experience in your everyday life.

We can highly recommend going in low season if it’s possible for you. We were given vouchers for experiences like the wine tasting, hiring a vintage car or ordering food which would normally be quite expensive.
